Navigator College is set to expand its Early Learning Centre (ELC), introducing facilities for Little Learners two-years of age as part of a major development aimed at enhancing early years education at the College.

The second stage of the ELC expansion will begin construction in April 2025, with the new facility expected to be operational by 2026. The upgrade will increase the ELC's capacity by 77% and allow families to access the Child Care Subsidy Scheme.

Following the completion of the ELC expansion, the College will also commence construction on a purpose-built Reception Village, scheduled to break ground in 2025 and open in 2027.

Meeting the Growing Demand for Childcare

Navigator College Principal Stephen Jude said the developments reflect the school’s commitment to early education and respond to increasing demand for childcare in the community.

“Both projects are aimed at strengthening our focus on early years education and supporting local families,” Jude said.

“The ELC expansion includes a dedicated room for two-year-olds, which is a first for Early Learning Centres on the Eyre Peninsula. This addition provides families with a seamless education journey from two years of age through to Year 12 at Navigator College,” Jude added.

ELC Director Kelly Freeman highlighted the design features of the new facility, including its orientation to maximize natural light.

“The facility will include a large undercover deck, nature-inspired play spaces, a piazza, and a multipurpose kitchen,” Freeman said.

A New Vision for Early Learning

The project, designed by Tim Geue of Built Design Architects, will also see the construction of the Reception Village next to the ELC, facilitating a smooth transition for young learners.

“The Reception Village will offer secure outdoor learning areas, a new maker space, and an internal gathering hub known as the ‘Village Square,’” Geue said. “There will also be outdoor nature play areas to encourage interactive learning.”

Families interested in learning more about the expansion, ELC programs, and transport services across the Eyre Peninsula can access more information via the Navigator College website or contact the College on 8628 5099 for a personalised tour.
